SERVICE FEEDBACK: Came on a Monday evening for dinner. The place was quite empty (see picture) and there were only 3 other occupied tables at the time of visit. My partner, requested for a table for 2 where we can sit side-by-side (as opposed to sitting across each other). This was because a) my partner was a bit on the heavier side and b) the booth for 2 was quite cramped, as you can gather from the picture, the solo table/chair is quite small c) we prefer to have a double table as we planned to order quite a few things when we saw this resto on IG. As per the server, the bench tables were for groups of 4. We asked twice and was declined both times, despite the restaurant being close to empty (another table had left while waiting for our order). It would have been a more comfortable dining experience had they allowed us to sit on the bench tables. I fully understand that the servers were just following restaurant policy but again - some consideration can be made seeing as the resto was near empty. I can say the the food had an innovative take on Japanese fusion. I liked the soy butter noodles which tasted like carbonara. My partner liked the spicy mala gyudon except the portion left something to be desired. I would have loved to try out their dessert menu (the Fuji Apple Cloud specifically) but we were already uncomfortable with the service provided to us so we just ate quickly and left. Other things worth mentioning, no condiments on the table, no chopsticks either (we had to ask for it). 4 stars for the food we tried, and 2 for the service.

Kodawari means “The Uncompromising and Relentless Pursuit of Perfection.” They started as a delivery service during the pandemic, offering trays of gyudon which I think I have tried at least once. Later on they expanded their donburi lineup with shroomdon and chashudon while opening their physical store in Adamson Centre, Leviste Street, Makati. I like Katsudon. I order it every time I eat at a Japanese restaurant for the first time. I go so far as to rate the place based on how they prepare this seemingly simple dish. But in this case, my instincts told me to try the shroomdon instead. It had me at “Four kinds of mushrooms”. I’m not a fan of shrooms…yet. But I’ve heard good things about including this to our diet. What better way to add it by having different kinds in one go. It is also the first time I’ve seen Talbos ng Kamote in any menu and in any other dish aside from sinigang na isda. I got curious, so I went for it. I thought the presentation was very nice. The mushrooms covered the rice while being blanketed by the talbos ng kamote and butter strips. I honestly didn’t notice the egg until I mixed the whole thing. The taste was delicious! The best donburi sauce I’ve had! It complemented the unique flavors of the mushrooms which I won’t attempt to name. Some of the best katsudon I’ve had have mushrooms in it but this one showed me that I can do away without any meats. Everything was perfect except for a minor oversight when they served white rice instead of brown when they asked me earlier. Nothing is perfect, but Kodawari is sure close to it! When in Makati…book it!

Eating at Kodawari was an enjoyable experience through and through. I love how they innovated Japanese cuisine and made it into their own, fusing it with other cuisines. This really sets them apart from other classic Japanese restos. Everything that we ate there was well thought out, from the last detail and ingredient. I really liked how gingery the karaage is. Meanwhile, the Kinako Chocolate Fudge was a perfect blend of sweetness and texture. Service was also relatively quick.

We saw a lot of people online mentioning this place so we checked it out. We ordered Gyudon, Spicy Gyudon, Cauliflower and herbal iced tea. Here is my review for each: Gyudon - it's alright. Honestly, you really have to make an effort to make a bad tasting gyudon. This is one is just fine. Nothing special with its taste. The unique thing about it is that they used sweet potato leaves but they don't really add anything significant to the taste. I can definitely taste the MSG they use though. LOL Spicy Gyudon - they pretty much just add spicy/chili powder to the gyudon. At least, that's how it looked and tasted to me. Better just get the gyudon. Cauliflower - serving is too small considering the price. It's basically deep-fried cauliflower. Nothing impressive about it. Again, I can taste the MSG on it. Herbal Iced Tea - uses wintermelon arnibal. It's just an overpriced samalamig/palamig. Not very sweet. The food is alright. Nothing special to write home about. We will definitely not return, though. I would rather pay the same price for better food elsewhere. Waiting staff is polite and friendly. The place is fine.

Plain. Simple. Premium. Recently, this place is getting a lot of hype due to social media. They have a one page menu that is very specialized and specific. For the bowls, we had the Gyudon and Chashudon. For the dessert, i had the Kinako Chocolate Fudge. For the bowls, hands down, one of the best i ever had. They are simple, yet satisfying. Price point is fair as well. Chashudon has ample amount of fat, while the Gyudon mixed well with the yolk. For the choco fudge, feels a bit cheap because of the rice crispies. But overall, it was good. Feels expensive for the price because i ate it alone and was too much for me

First time trying this place after I saw it online and it really did not disappoint! They only have few seats to accommodate the guests and we’re lucky enough that walk in is available during our visit without any waiting time! We were surprised by the amount of serving and also the TASTEEEE!!! superb!! Too bad we were already full upon going there so we had to take away the food (we still enjoyed it at home!) Will comeback.

I love their sweet and spicy gyudon noodles and karaage. The serving is just right. The ambience is nice and chill. Customer vibes are elite people lol. The staff are accommodating. The problem was the it's too cramped like I could literally hear other people's conversation.

The pork is nice and worth the price. The chilimansi noodle though is quite salty. The mackerel fish is quite pricey for the serving size and taste.
